Betting on Tyson Fury to Beat Francis Ngannou

A photo of Tyson Fury

It’s clearly Fury’s fight to win, and that’s a bit of an understatement. Betting markets installed him as a -1000 favorite and that has already swelled to -1400 at online betting sites.

I do believe the chances Fury loses this fight are quite remote. He’s one of the best fighters of all time, and he’s facing an MMA fighter, who, while is a giant in his own right, has never fought in a professional boxing match before.

The real question is, do we have value at -1400? If we calculate the implied probability of this number, it’s around 93%. Of course, there’s a bit more with the vig, but ultimately do we expect Fury to win this fight 95% of the time?

For me, the answer is yes. Even with Ngannou training under Mike Tyson, at most, I believe this will make the fight a bit more competitive.

What Does History Tell Us?

There are a lot of parallels here between the Floyd Mayweather and Connor McGregor boxing match that happened back in 2017. Mayweather, another all-time great, ala Tyson Fury fighting an elite MMA fighter in his first boxing match ever.

McGregor put up a fight until he was knocked out in the later rounds as he ran out of gas. Mayweather was in no real danger of being knocked out in that fight, nor was he knocked down or truly tested.

I do believe that even laying -1400 is still a bet with a positive expectation. However, as we get closer to the fight, a variety of props will be available.

I think a bet on Fury to get the knockout, which will become available as we get closer to the fight and proposition betting markets appear, is the best way to attack this fight if you want to bet on Fury to win.

Check back closer to the date of the fight for more recommendations and picks for proposition bets between Fury and Ngannou.

Betting on Francis Ngannou to Beat Tyson Fury

Can Francis Ngannou actually win this fight? Well, he has a fighter’s chance, or so they say. How much of one? Well, in my opinion, it is slim to none.

The only realistic way that Ngannou wins this fight is by knockout, and that is a tough feat against Fury, who has never lost a professional fight and only has a single draw on his record.

Nganou certainly has “knockout” power. He’s put plenty of guys on the canvas in the UFC, but boxing obviously is a different animal. Fury is a giant and one of the fastest and smartest in the history of the sport.

However, I don’t see how Ngannou can win this fight on points. That’s a much taller order and one that will undoubtedly be available in prop markets eventually, with an even higher payout than him winning the fight outright.

The best price on Ngannou is +800 or so at BetOnline. If you want to bet on him to win this fight – I wouldn’t look into prop markets. That’s probably the best you’re going to get.

Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou Betting Prediction

Fury vs Ngannou

It’s hard to see this fight going another way besides a Fury victory. I think -1400 is worth a bet, but we could just as easily see Fury knock him to the ground quickly.

I personally think this fight stays somewhat close until the later rounds when Ngannou is fatigued, and Fury is still, well, Tyson Fury.

A late-round knockout by Fury is most likely the way this fight ends. As prop markets appear closer to the fight – I think there will be value on him to get a late knockout.

For now, Fury -1400 is still a bet worth making if you feel like tying up your bankroll.
