It’s tough for the Cardinals to have a worse year than their 2018 season. They finished with the worst record in the NFL at 3-13 and were last in the NFC West. However, much has changed in a matter of months. They fired head coach, Steve Wilks, and hired former Texas Tech head coach, Kliff Kingsbury, an offensive wizard, as their new head coach.
They also jettisoned former top pick Josh Rosen to the Miami Dolphins and selected Oklahoma quarterback, Kyler Murray, with the first overall pick in the 2019 Draft. The future looks bright for the Cardinals with the draft of Murray and hire of Kingsbury, but how much will they improve from last season?
Arizona Cardinals 2019 Roster Changes
Aside from hiring Kliff Kingsbury as head coach and hiring Kyler Murray, there have also been several other changes to the roster. Future Hall-of-Famer, wide receiver, Larry Fitzgerald, will be back on a one-year deal. They also signed ex-Bills’ tight end, Charles Clay. They beefed up the offensive line by acquiring tackle, Marcus Gilbert, from Pittsburgh. Their biggest deal came in the signing of ex-Eagle, Jordan Hicks, to a four-year contract worth $36 million. However, the franchise didn’t stop there at linebacker, adding a veteran, Terrell Suggs, with a $10 million, two-year deal.

Most have praised the Cardinals’ 2019 Draft. Kyler Murray seemed to be the consensus No. 1 pick amongst most front offices, and this draft will be judged on his success. The head coach also got the guy he wanted under center, which is vital for the franchise going forward. Their third-round pick in Byron Murphy, a cornerback from the University of Washington, is expected to make an immediate impact. WR Andy Isabella and DE Zach Allen may also be starters from Day 1. There is a lot to like in this draft class.
Arizona Cardinals 2019 Schedule And Divisional Competition
Arizona ranks near the bottom of the third of in strength of schedule by most rankings. They did not get a favorable draw in their AFC divisional draw this year, facing the AFC North. The franchise will face a tough test at Baltimore but will get the much-improved Browns and Steelers at home. Their toughest in-conference game looks to be a Week 8 date with the Saints at the Superdome.
Their division is tough, the NFC West, as well. The Rams made the Super Bowl last season, and the Seahawks were also a playoff team. The 49ers should not be discounted as they lost their starting quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, to a season-ending injury, but he will be ready Week 1.
