The Redskins have not been a team to praise much over the last few years when it comes to personnel moves. However, by many accounts, including from yours truly, they were the big winners when it comes to this year’s NFL Draft.
Still, their roster needs some work as they’re in a tough division, but bettors and fans alike can’t forget they were almost a playoff team last season. After the pick of quarterback, Dwayne Haskins, there are heaps of optimism surrounding the franchise that has not been there in years.
Washington Redskins 2019 Roster Changes
Alex Smith suffered a devastating knee injury, and he is expected to miss the entire 2019 season. The Redskins still have Colt McCoy, but it is likely we will see first-round pick, Dwayne Haskins, under center to start the season. They also acquired Case Keenum from the Broncos.
Their biggest offseason signing was ex-Giant safety, Landon Collins. They also brought in Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie at cornerback and resigned, running back, Adrian Peterson to a two-year deal. Their most notable loss on the offensive side came with wide receiver, Jamison Crowder, heading to the New York Jets.
Washington Redskins 2019 NFL Draft
Washington earned positive reviews from their 2019 NFL Draft as they selected Dwayne Haskins at No. 15. He fell quite a bit and was not expected to be there when the Redskins made their pick, but there plenty of rumors the front office wanted him. He’s supposed to be a work in progress, but with Alex Smith’s injury and no other long-term or clear short-term solution – he may be under center come Week 1.
The franchise also traded up to get an edge rusher which is a position of need for them and a type of player that doesn’t grow on trees. Defensive end, Montez Sweat, is expected to start immediately and fills a significant need for their defense. They also have paired Dwayne Haskins with one of his pass catchers in Ohio State wide receiver, Terry McLaurin.
Washington Redskins 2019 Schedule And Divisional Competition
Many publications have Washington with one of the most relaxed schedules in the league. Several sites rank them as having the easiest schedule out of any team going into the 2019 season out of the NFL’s 32 teams. They will face the AFC East, which has been a weak performing division, aside from the Patriots.
Luckily, the Redskins will face them at FedEx Field on October 8. It’s tough to say NFC East got better in the offseason. Odell Beckham is now on the Browns, and neither Dallas nor Philadelphia seemed to have added much in free agency. In fact, it doesn’t appear any team in the division will be better off, except perhaps, the Redskins.
Washington Redskins 2019 Predictions
MyBookie.ag has the Redskins at 6.5 wins. The vig is juiced on the over at 6.5 wins and -120. I think this team easily has a shot at winning seven games. Their roster has improved, and the division has debatably gotten worse. They also can get away with subpar quarterback play. They had a replacement level quarterback last year and nearly made the postseason.
