The Premier League is about to kick off, and all eyes will lie on that coveted league trophy come May 2020. However, the galaxy of stars will also have a little eye on a personal honor to cap off their year – The Premier League Golden Boot Winner award.
While the clock is ticking, there’s mayhem in the football betting market and we’re here to make life easier for the punters.
So, here we take a look at who could be top contenders for the prize come May.
Odds To Win The Premier League Golden Boot – Season 2019/20
Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) +500
In the last two seasons, Mohamed Salah has taken English football by storm. His 32-goal record-breaking frenzy is something that’s still etched in the memory of Liverpool fans and the people who fancy him for the Golden Boot race.
He’s got an astonishing pace and dribbling abilities in his repertoire that allow him to scythe through defenses for fun and make life really difficult for the fullback against him.
It’s no secret that he appears to be selfish on a lot of occasions but as long as he’s hitting those sizzling bests in the back of the net, every fan would happily overlook his hunger for goals.
He was given the label of ‘one-season wonder’ before the start of the season and he answered the critics with what he does the best, scoring goals week-in week-out.
Could he repeat the heroics of last two seasons again?
Harry Kane (Spurs) +400
Regardless of how underwhelming his last season might have looked on the paper, it’s criminal to rule this man out of the Golden Boot race.
Despite being sidelined for a long period of time due to injuries, Harry still managed to net 17 league-goals—with a goal-per-minute ratio better than Mo Salah’s.
In case you didn’t know, he’s been the top-scorer in the league for back-to-back campaigns. Not to mention he did it with a relatively inferior squad (debatable?).
Now, he has a better and more experienced group of players around him, it wouldn’t be surprising if he goes firing on all the cylinders. Especially, if we see Spurs’ squad for the season, the addition of Tanguy Ndombele, Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso would give a massive boost to Kane’s goals-tally.
While fantasy football managers have shown an awful lot of discontent over the infamous history August of the England striker, it could be a different story this season.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal) +700
Arsenal is an attacking team and it’s safe to say that this man is the spearhead of that force.
He shared the golden boot with the Liverpool-duo (Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane) last season with a tally of 22 goals. What’s more impressive is the fact that it only took him only 72 shots to score 22 goals—while Salah took 104.
However, the only thing that could put his odds in trouble is how his manager utilizes him. If we take a look back at last season, despite being the team’s scorer, his name was often found missing from the starting XI.
Any manager or a fan would love to see him play with his attacking partner Alexandre Lacazette but his manager didn’t look enough convinced about the playing the duo together last season—hopefully, it’ll change this year.
This season would surely be exciting for him—thanks to Arsenal’s spectacular summer business. The Gabonese striker would have Arsenal’s new signing, ‘Nicolas Pépé alongside him in the attack.
Pépé’s wide diversity of skills would hopefully help Aubameyang hit a greater goal-mark this season and perhaps, the award for the highest-goal scorer in the league.
Sergio Aguero (Manchester City) +600
Introducing Premier League’s one of the finest imports, Sergio Aguero. Although it feels odd to realize he has a mere one golden boot in his trophy cabinet, nevertheless, Aguero is still one of the deadliest strikers in the world.
His natural finishing ability, coupled with intelligent positioning in the box, makes him awfully unpredictable in the box. The only setback with him is the fear of an injury.
His decorated career has the blemishes of a few injuries that have taken a toll on him in many seasons. However, a fit Sergio Aguero in a rollicking vintage Pep Guardiola side could bring havoc in the league.
The 31-year-old striker and his teammates have set the standard in the league for the attacking teams and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they smash one of their own records again this season.
He’s the focal point of City’s team. We all know how threatening his presence would be for the other candidates running for the honor.
Wildcards
Apart from the big guns, there are still some renowned names that haven’t been mentioned yet.
Sadio Mane +1400
He showed last year that he’s not there to be in the shadows of his fellow winger by equalling Egypt International’s goal-tally by the end of the season. Mane’s blistering pace in Liverpool’s pace-ridden team makes him a serious problem for the opposition in the final third.
He has only been on the rise since last season—who knows, he might overtake Salah this season?
Raheem Sterling +1400
He is another name that can’t be left out of the list. He’s one of the most improved players in the Premier League in the last few seasons.
Even though this manager has the luxury of a slew of options to rotate in his starting XI, this man rarely becomes a victim of Pep’s infamous rotation danger. He found the back of the net 17 times last season, and he’d be aiming above the 20-goal mark this season.
If we look go by the odds at Bovada, Spurs’ forward Harry Kane comes out to be a favorite.
