The NFL may be gone for another six months, but football is back this Saturday. Vince McMahon’s previously defunct professional football league returns this year, the Xtreme Football League. It will be the XFL’s first season since 2001.
The league has some substantial rule changes from the NFL game and far fewer teams, but it also has some serious financial backing. The games will be broadcast on several major stations, including FOX, ABC, and ESPN.

Breakdown Of The XFL Championship Futures Odds
There is no clear favorite to win the XFL Championship Title right now.
- The Dallas Renegades are the preseason favorites before the season starts at +275.
- The East Division, New York Guardians, are just behind them at +320.
- The odds drop off a bit after that, with the LA Wildcats and Tampa Bay Vipers near the same price, at +500 and +550, respectively.
- The DC Defenders at +750 and the Houston Roughnecks at +900 also offer handsome payouts if they should take down the title.
- Finally, we round it out with the St. Louis Battle Hawks and Seattle Dragons both at +1000 – or 10/1 – to win it all.
Our Favorite XFL 2020 Championship Future Bets
Let’s look at which are our favorite teams to win the Championship:
Tampa Bay Vipers +550
Looking at their roster, I don’t love their talent, but I’d be lying if I was all that familiar with these players. However, the reason the Vipers stand out to me is the head coach, Marc Trestman.
Trestman is one of the few NFL coaches that was possibly better than his time in the league indicated. He is a pass-happy coach and looks to push the tempo on offense. I’ll take coaching philosophy over talent, especially in a league like this.
Has A Good Quarterback
Trestman also has a decent quarterback in Aaron Murray. He played briefly in the NFL but led the now-defunct AAF in completion percentage. He is the favorite to start Week 1.
The rest of the roster isn’t as inspiring, but I will take an aggressive head-coach and a quarterback. The XFL offers a lot “fun” for offenses with double forward passes and the potential to attack after touchdowns and go for 3-point tries.
Dallas Renegades +275
It’s easy to see why they are the team favored to win the first XFL Championship. The coaching, along with the roster, is full of NFL and college football experience.
A Top-Tier Roster
First, Bob Stoops, a longtime Oklahoma Sooners head coach, will coach the Renegades. He has more head coaching experience than anyone else in the league.
QB Landry Jones is also the best the XFL has to offer as a quarterback. He had professional success as a backup to Ben Roethlisberger. He also played at Oklahoma under Bob Stoops.
They also have a beautiful set of skill players, including two running backs with a lot of experience in Cameron Artis-Payne and Lance Dunbar. The offensive line also has a lot of players with experience in the NFL.
Their roster is the best I have seen so far in the XFL. I still don’t love putting a team way above another one as we haven’t seen any games yet, but it’s easy to see why the oddsmakers have the Renegades leading the pack.
DC Defenders +750
Pep Hamilton has made a career out of leading NFL offenses, but the XFL will be his first head-coaching gig. He has quite a pedigree of quarterbacks that he has worked with over the years, including Alex Smith, Andrew Luck, and others.
He will work with former Ohio State product, Cardale Jones. He never did make to the NFL, but is now looking for his chance in the XFL. If he can click with Hamilton, this offense could be dangerous.
They also will have former Pittsburgh Steeler, Eli Rogers, at wide receiver. Running back and defense seem to be weak spots, but you don’t get the upside of +750 without any of the risk.
