Heisman Trophy 2020: Betting Odds & Preview

Who Will Win The 2020-21 Heisman Trophy?

It’s never too early to think about college football. It’s never too early to try to figure out who has the edge for the 2020 Heisman Trophy.

Last season Joe Burrow came out of nowhere to win the award. He wasn’t in the top-5 list of names to win it at the start of the year. Yet, his display was absurd and unbelievable, there were no doubters when he won it.

The 2020 college football season will have a ton of talent trying to get their hands on the Heisman Trophy. However, the names that win it needs a combination of solid individual stats and excellent team performance. They pretty much need to lead their team to the playoffs to have a real shot at the award.

Let’s see some early favorites:

QB Trevor Lawrence (Clemson) +225

2020 is the second year in a row Trevor Lawrence jumps out as the early favorite. He was the biggest name on the list last year as well.

Lawrence had a bad start of the season in 2019 and never got back to the Heisman Trophy conversation.

Trevor Lawrence helped Clemson reach the National Title game in the last two seasons, but 2020 might be his most important year. Lawrence will be eligible to play in the NFL after this season, and that’s added pressure.

This upcoming year might determine if he’s the number one pick in the 2021 NFL draft or falls a little. After getting outplayed by Burrow in the title games last season, many wonder if he’s the real deal.

QB Justin Field (Ohio State) +250

We didn’t give Justin Field enough credit last season. He was one of the nation’s best players on a team with legit chances to reach the National Title game.

Field recorded 3273 passing yards, 41 touchdowns, and three interceptions during his sophomore year. He will be a junior in 2020, with a lot more experience and a chance to take Ohio State to the promised land.

We know the Buckeyes land top recruits all the time. He will be surrounded by talented players again, and his numbers this season should be as good or better.

We didn’t talk about Justin Field enough last year. He will make a lot of noise in 2020.

QB Kedon Slovis (USC) +400

Watch out for Kedon Slovis. He showed many skills and maturity during his freshman year, even though he took the starting position on the run.

Slovis will enter his sophomore year with experience and lots of high hopes. Few players get to be starting QB in their freshman year. Kedon Slovis didn’t have a choice and performed better than expected.

Slovis threw for 3502 yards, 30 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 2019. He had four games with at least four touchdown passes and recorded over 400 yards on each of his last three regular-season outings.

He does have the tools to be a household name in the NCAA in the next couple of seasons. He’s an exciting choice based on talent.

The only problem is USC is not a great football program now, and that could ruin his Heisman Trophy chances.
