We saw the youth movement take hold last week as Matthew Wolff won the PGA Tour’s 3M Open at just 20 years of age. The tournament was only his third as a professional and his first PGA Tour victory. Even though he was playing on a sponsor’s exemption with much better players – the kid pulled it off for a nice payday for those who bet on him.
But, it’s a new week, and that means a new event on the PGA Tour. The 2019 John Deere Classic will tee off this Thursday at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois. Michael Kim posted a historic score in last year’s Classic, with a record 27-under.
2019 John Deere Classic Golf Course
The course has lavish fairways, and the greens are workable. This is not the course for long drives, but instead favors those who can hit greens and make a critical putt when necessary. It is not a firm and fast course. However, it did receive a lot of rain in the last few months and may play a bit faster for this reason.

Odds Analysis: This tournament isn’t exactly a who’s who of the golf world. Three PGA Tour rookies are among the favorites to win. That includes Matthew Wolff, who is 22/1, coming off his victory last week. We don’t love him in this one, as the odds are likely a little inflated from his success at the 3M.
Viktor Hovland is the best player in the field, which doesn’t say much about the competitors this week. He’s a great golfer and may be worth a bet at 18/1, but when he’s the best you’ve got, it’s not exactly enticing for viewers. The Scottish Open is stealing some of the top pros away, such as Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler, and Justin Thomas.
Our Picks To Win the 2019 John Deere Classic
Sunjae Im +2200 – Another young star could easily win this week in Im. He’s firmly in the Rookie of the Year talks and seems to be a favorite among sharps as his price as already dropped since the odds opened. He’s 44 under par in his last four tournaments. The kid close to putting together a victory will pay off nicely at 22/1.
Collin Morikawa +2000: He’s another young player that has made a ton of cuts early on in his career. He’s been very consistent throughout his short career, with just three rounds over par as a professional. Morikawa is playing great and earned special PGA Tour temp status after his T-2 finish behind Matthew Wolff last week.
Viktor Hovland +1800: I don’t mind eating some chalk with someone like Hovland, who has been mighty impressive in what will be only his fifth start on tour. The 21-year-old has been fantastic and for how well he is playing – I’ll take a stab at 18/1.
