Can Liverpool end their three-decade wait to win the league title? That is the big question going into the Premier League 2019-20 season. If the Reds are to win their first league title since 1990, then they will have to outclass two-time defending champions Manchester City.
While neither side has been very active in the transfer market this summer, both teams are stacked with world-class stars.
Liverpool and Manchester City are the favorites to fight for the Premier League trophy. However, Tottenham Hotspur – last season’s Champions League runners-up – will have plenty of say in the title race.
Meanwhile, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal will all hope to have improved this offseason. They will certainly shake things up, especially for those betting on the 2019-20 Premier League season.
The Premier League’s Elite Teams Are Favorites To Win
There is no doubt Liverpool and Manchester City are the cream of the crop in the Premier League right now.
Manchester City got stronger this offseason by signing defensive midfielder Rodri from Atletico Madrid for £62.8 million. The Spanish tackler is the only significant move Manchester City have made to bolster their title-winning squad.
Liverpool and Manchester City Betting Odds
Pep Guardiola’s team is –150 to win a third straight title, according to leading sportsbooks. Nearest rivals Liverpool are at +215 to win the Premier League and get the better of Guardiola’s team this time around.
Team | Odds To Win |

Keeping The Same Strong Squads
The Reds came up just one point short in the title race last season. Despite missing out on the trophy, Liverpool has not gone crazy and reshaped their squad. In fact, only two players have arrived this summer and both are teenagers.
Centre-back Sepp van den Berg signed from PEC Zwolle and Harvey Elliott joined from Fulham. Both are players for the future.
The media has made a big deal about Liverpool’s lack of transfer business, but Manchester City has done little to their first team as well. Neither side needs, or needed, to change anything.
Manchester City won the Premier League and Liverpool lifted the Champions League trophies last term showing just how powerful both are.
The Rest of the Premier League Teams
You will find some of the other Premier League teams you should keep an eye out for when betting on the 2019-20 season:
Little Movement From Hotspur
Like Liverpool and Manchester City, Hotspur has done little in the way of new signings. They did add central midfielder Tanguy Ndombele for £55m. His addition will help shore up a weak area of the team.
To say Tottenham Hotspur are stronger than last year would be untrue. Overall, they look similar to the team that finished fourth. They will go as far as Harry Kane’s ankles will take them.
Arsenal And Chelsea Not Big Favorites
Arsenal and Chelsea have plenty of question marks.
The Gunners may have a brilliant attack that got stronger with the addition of Nicolas Pepe, but they have no defense. Bernd Leno may spend more time picking the ball out of his net than stopping shots.
Chelsea begins the Frank Lampard era under a transfer ban. Still, they were able to sneak American Christian Pulisic into the squad. He arrives after his worst season at Borussia Dortmund. Pulisic has big shoes to fill after the sale of Eden Hazard to Real Madrid.
Is Manchester United Back?
Manchester United fans should calm down because even if Harry Maguire, Paulo Dybala, and/or Bruno Fernandes arrive before the end of the transfer window, the Red Devils are not a good team to bet on.
Man U Poor Performance And Deals
Manchester United won just two of their last nine league matches. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looked out of his depth and a new era was expected in terms of scouting and transfers this summer.
It looks like those new strategies have gone out the window with the £85m signing of Harry Maguire and possible £350,000-per-week deal for Dybala.
There is nothing to prove this team is any better than it was the last term. They will be able to take points off of the top six teams.
Teams With Long Shot(s) To Win
Two teams truly stand out as possible Premier League title-winning long shots:
Leicester City – Heavy Underdogs at +30000
Leicester City goes into their first full season under the management of Brendan Rodgers. The former Liverpool and Celtic manager transformed the Foxes last season into a smooth attacking team.
Jamie Vardy and James Maddison were improved under him and with the additions of Ayoze Perez and Youri Tielemans on a permanent deal, this is a team with potential.
Even without Maguire, Rodgers can lead Leicester City into the top six.
Wolverhampton Wanderers
The other stand out long shot is Wolverhampton Wanderers. This is a club with money, an excellent manager, and talented players.
The club shelled out £16m for AC Milan striker Patrick Cutrone this week and he will play alongside proven goalscorer Raul Jimenez. The only issue for Wolves will be playing in the Europa League after last season’s seventh-place finish.
Last season they took 16 points off of the top six, which included four solely against Manchester United. The only top-six team Wolves didn’t take points off of was Liverpool.
