I don’t think it’s crazy to see this offense as one of the tops in the NFC with all their weapons. I wouldn’t call them a dark horse for a playoff berth, but with an improved defense and better coaching this team could get to seven or eight wins
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2019 Roster Changes
The Buccaneers were not very active in free agency. They made a few under the radar signings and some one-year deals, but there were not too many major deals.
The most significant move was trading wide receiver DeSean Jackson to the Eagles for a sixth-round pick. The trade pushes Chris Godwin into a starting role as he was for much of last season.
Ex-Bear Breshad Perriman Signed
They also signed ex-Bear, WR Breshad Perriman, to a one-year deal. WR Adam Humphries also left in free agency to Tennessee.
Signed Needed Linebackers
Linebacker is an area of need for the Buccaneers, and they addressed that in free agency by signing Deone Buccannon and Shaquil Barrett to one-year deals.
The franchise also locked up their best offensive lineman to a multi-year contract when they re-signed offensive tackle, Donovan Smith.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2019 NFL Draft
The Buccaneers got mixed reviews on their 2019 NFL Draft. However, I think the team did an excellent job addressing their needs. Defensively, they were a mess last season, and that is precisely the area they tried to address.
Drafted Strong Defensive Players
At No. 5 overall, they took LB Devin White out of LSU. He profiles similarly to Deone Buccannon, but with far more upside. This pick, along with their offseason signings, should allow them to pressure the quarterback.
Cornerback was also a significant need. Their second and third round picks were both CBs. Sean Bunting out of Central Michigan was a highly rated player by just about every team. Most judged him as a steal in the second round.
Tampa Bay 2019 Schedule And Divisional Competition
The Buccaneers got a tough draw for finishing the season 5-11 last season. They face the NFC’s best, including the Rams and they are forced to play the Saints twice in the NFC South.
AFC South A Tough Division To Beat
Their out of conference play is also robust against an improving AFC South.
The AFC South is one of the deeper divisions in football. The Falcons were beaten up with injuries but are now healthier. The Saints were a drive away from the Super Bowl. It would be hard to argue that Carolina is a worse team on paper than Tampa Bay, as well.
