Breeders’ Cup Main Events

Because the Breeders’ Cup contests cover every conceivable division, turf races from sprints to routes, 2-year-olds colts, and fillies to older horses, it’s hard to make a case for which is the very best race.

Breeders’ Cup Classic and Distaff Races

However, most racing fans agree that the Breeders’ Cup Classic, with a purse of $6 million, is the crowning grand finale.

The Breeders’ Cup Distaff, the filly and mare version of the Classic, is just as prestigious.

How to Pick The 2019 Breeders’ Cup Winner

Almost every contest is a great betting race and is a chance to score big.

It may be obvious, but you’ll want to really study any race that you bet on.

Betting Tip #1Study the Past Performances

Look at the horses’ forms and back class. Since the Breeders’ Cup series is at the end of the year, the form of some horses may be tailing off while others are improving.

Betting Tip #2Watch replays of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series

You’ll find horses that could be coming into the Breeders’ Cup under the radar due to a poor finish because of trouble during the race, or with the track surface.

Betting Tip #3Examine Santa Anita Track Bias

Pay attention to the track bias at Santa Anita in the days leading up to the Breeders’ Cup. Is speed prevalent at certain distances? Are horses winning on the rail or farther out on the course?

Betting Tip #4Research trainer and jockey Breeders’ Cup Stats

Some trainers and jocks are practically guaranteed winners. For instance, “Money” Mike Smith is the most winningest jockey in Breeders’ Cup history. One notable European trainer whose charges wins everything overseas seldom hit the board at the Breeders’ Cup, and are often sent off at short odds.

Betting Tip #5Favorites seldom win

Don’t be swayed by picking the favorite in every race. Yes, sometimes the overwhelming choice proves best, but more often, it’s the horses in the 5-1 (+500) to 10-1 (+1000) odds range who deliver.

Betting Tip #6Place Your Bets

Choose your horses and betting strategy. Write down the type of bet and order of your horses. Make sure you have the correct post position numbers for the horses. It’s easy to get confused if you are trying to get your bet in on time or if there’s a distracting crowd.

Types of Horse Racing Bets To Place On The Breeders’ Cup

You’ll get substantial value on just about any horse you wager on in the Breeders’ Cup. Fortunately, there are plenty of types of wagers.

  1. Traditional win, place, show bets: A solid choice for long shots. A “win” bet is who will win the race. “Place” is who will finish second, and “show” is who will finish third. Betting “across the board” means the horse can finish anywhere in the top three, and you win.
  2. Exacta, Trifecta, Superfecta: An exacta is picking the top two finishers. Trifecta is the top three, and superfecta is picking the top four horses. A “straight” Exacta, Trifecta, Superfecta bet means the horses must finish in the order selected.
  3. You can “box” your wager: so any of the horses can finish in any position. When a race is wide open, you can “key” a horse (or horses) on top with multiple horses in the second and third and/or fourth spots.
  4. “Wheel” a horse with “all”: You can also “wheel” a horse with “all,” which means all the other horses in the race. You’ll cash nicely if your top horse finishes first or second, and the horses who complete the exacta, trifecta or superfecta are longshots.
  5. Multi-race “vertical” wagers: These are fun and can be rewarding. Multi-race wagers are picking the winners of consecutive races. They can be three races, (Pick 3), four races (Pick 4), five (Pick 5), and six (Pick 6).
  6. Doubles wagers: Doubles are winners of two consecutive races). If you aren’t used to multi-race wagers, these are a great place to start and can offer incredible returns. Last year’s early Breeders’ Cup Saturday double of the Filly and Mare Sprint and Turf Sprint paid $540 for a $2 bet!

How to Place An Online Bet On the Breeders Cup

Just about every sportsbook online has a racebook. Bettors will be able to wager on the winners of each race through the sportsbook, but if they want to get into more traditional horse betting wagers, they can head over to the racebook. From there, they will be able to place win, place, show, exactas, trifectas and more.

Keep in mind: some racebooks will only pay out up to a certain amount, which means if your score big, you’ll only receive the amount offered by the racebook, not the actual payout.

In this regard, we recommend MyBookie.ag for betting on the Breeders’ Cup. Not only do they offer new bettors a 100% Deposit Bonus up to $1,000 on their first deposit, but they have some of the fastest payouts online, free credit card deposits, and a sportsbook that has odds on just about everything in the world of sports. Their Breeders’ Cup betting offerings are plentiful, and they have excellent racebook betting software.

Sportsbook Bovada.lv is also an excellent choice, as it offers some of the highest limits for horse racing and has a 50% up to $250 bonus.

Look for deposit bonuses, which are common for big race days.
